Short exercise
A short exercise takes 30 minutes or less. They typically address one specific element of a topic. You can use them in your meeting, at the start of your day with your team. We have written them to be fun, easy interventions.
When to use this tool?
Everyone has been part of many different teams. For example, think about your current work, previous jobs, sports teams, at school, etc. And some of those teams were amazing to be a part of, and others not so much.
How does it work?
Step 1: Think about great teams you have been a part of.
List your great teams. And think about what made that experience so great.
Step 2: Share your best experience in teamwork.
You can do this in 2 ways.
1) Make pairs and interview each other about that team’s experience. Ask follow-up questions to create a deeper understanding of what made that team experience so special.
2) Speed date. So in just ~2-3 minutes each, you share the highlights of the team you have been part of. And then do a couple of dates with different colleagues to hear different stories.
Step 3: Share what it takes to be a great team.
As a team, make a list of the different things you did hear. Can you see the diversity of what it takes to create great teamwork? And that it might be different for every team?
Step 4: Agree on easy steps for your team.
What inspired you about the different stories? Agree on what you can do better as a team. Don’t put the bar too high. You might also have heard that creating amazing teamwork is not always easy. But you get there by making the first steps easy!
